The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Per Diem Mammography Technologist to join our team of professionals within the FIU Linda Fenner 3D Mobile Mammography Center.
Prepares patient for imaging studies, including ensuring the removal of garments, deodorant, powders and jewelry. Explains the procedure to patients and observes to ensure safety and comfort during imaging procedure.
Conducts a brief patient breast history and ask the patient about the possibility of pregnancy.
Positions and immobilizes patients correctly in order to accurately capture the diagnostic image.
Positions the imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, to obtain the best density, and detail of the area being imaged as defined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Applies knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the physician diagnose problems and/or obtain optimal image.
Takes preventative steps to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation both to patients and to self. Uses protective devices, follows radiation safety measures, and follows safe equipment operating instructions to comply with government regulations including practicing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards.
Operates the equipment to produce radiographic images as ordered by physician or by standard diagnostic studies; keying commands and data into computer to document images and sending images to Radiology Group and archiving all images.
Maintains patient's imaging records utilizing the Hologic system in accordance with HIPAA laws. Documents in the patient's medical records images taken and any patient outcomes.
Identifies patient as correct patient for study. Ensures correct labeling of patient information utilizing Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA)-Required mammographic image identification standards.
Ensures that imaging equipment is sanitized between patient use. Maintain patient areas in a clean and safe manner.
Performs Quality Control measures following American College of Radiology (ACR) and FDA requirements including initial phantom image taken at the start of each screening day.
Reviews and evaluate film images to ensure images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and interpretations.
Forwards radiation monitoring badge to FIU Linda Fenner 3D Mobile Mammography Center designee who will then send to contracted vendor as per policy and procedures and maintain log of radiation badge levels from vendor.
Ensures imaging equipment is maintained in good working order, that necessary preventative maintenance is performed and documentation of these activities are forwarded to administrator.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties do not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
High School Diploma
Certified in Mammography and Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Licensed Certified Radiologic Technologist in the state of Florida
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
