The University of Chicago's Section of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation and Cellular Oncology in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for a Medical Physicist faculty member at any rank, and invites applications.
U.C. Radiation Oncology is a multi-institutional department and includes partnerships with the University of Illinois, an offsite University of Chicago Cancer Center, and community health systems. The physics section includes 7 faculty, 5 Ph.D. and 4 M.S. staff physicists, additional dosimetrists and support staff. Clinical operations at distributed sites (presently 4 sites) treat approximately 180 patients per day with a mix of state of-the-art and older machines and techniques, e.g., HDR, prostate seed implants, IMRT, IGRT, framed and frameless, SRS, SBRT. Equipment at the University of Chicago Medical Center includes: Varian TrueBeam (2), 21EX and Trilogy accelerators with MLC, EPID, OBI, AlignRT and gating; Brainlab Exactrac and 6D couch; Philips CT simulators, VariSource HDR, Pinnacle, iPlan and Eclipse treatment planning.
As a full-time faculty member, the successful applicant will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship, and join a vibrant, diverse, and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and The University of Chicago and its affiliates. Radiation Oncology physics faculty together with faculty in the Department of Radiology are active in the NIH T32-supported Graduate Program in Medical Physics. Accredited physics residency and certificate programs are also active. Strong research collaborations exist with Radiology physics faculty in image analysis, image- guided radiotherapy (IGRT), CT technique development for IGRT, functional and anatomic imaging (clinical and preclinical). The Department has a strong interest in research in image guidance, treatment technique development, dosimetry and treatment planning, quality assurance, image-based treatment assessment and other physics-related areas. Application of functional and molecular imaging in radiation oncology is also of particular interest. The Department has an extensive cancer biology research program, and collaboration between physics and biology researchers is encouraged.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree in physics or a closely related field such as nuclear engineering.
