The Special Procedures Tech performs fluoroscopic, diagnostic angiographic and interventional special procedures performed by a Radiologist and ordered by a physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Additional duties include:
Performs all diagnostic and interventional Special Procedures.
Assists physicians in performing therapeutic and diagnostic interventional Special Procedures as indicated.
Administers contrast media per established medication review protocols.
Cares for patients during procedures. Prepares patients for examinations.
Reports changes in the patient to appropriate personnel to follow-up.
Provides patient and families with needed examination information explaining procedures prior to examination.
Transports patients as needed for all sections of the Radiology Department.
Documents all examinations by performing related duties such as labeling and identifying films, documenting procedure related information on the requisition and properly charging for exams by established rate schedule.
Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assisting others, special assignments, cleans work area and replenishes supplies.
Provides for patient's physical and emotional needs in a wide variety of circumstances.
May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines.
Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a two-year degree in an approved Radiology program or work experience recommended by the approved licensing agency
Registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
American Heart Association BLS certification
1-2 years as a Special Procedures tech preferred
