General Statement of Duties:
Responsible for performing Interventional Radiological examinations and utilizing diagnostic radiographic equipment.
Provide direct patient care to patients of all ages.
Contribute to efficient operations of the SMH Radiology department, ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care.
Adheres to the confidentiality and Privacy Practices.
Must be available for flexible working schedule.
24 hour accountability with rotating call schedule for weekends and holidays
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Performing all required Interventional Radiology Examinations.
Positioning of the patient and equipment.
Selecting appropriate software/hardware and equipment imaging techniques.
Selecting radiographic techniques.
Patient /Radiation safety & protection along with appropriate infection control policies implemented by the department and hospital.
Initiates and reviews applicable department reports by end of shift, reports incomplete and incorrect examinations to ensure the proper patient charge and continuity of patient care.
Sets up the interventional radiographic room for all interventional radiographic examinations, prepares required procedural accessories, and cleans following the examination to create a contamination free environment according to departmental procedure.
Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety and comfort throughout the examination.
Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed exams to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
Coordinates patient's examination to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care and assists with the management of the workflow of the department to ensure the completion of work efficiently.
Provides educational knowledge to students and helps to bring patients back to their floor if patient wait time is excessive.
Demonstrates proper response and reliability for weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage.
Monitors inventory of supplies and notifies appropriate supervisor when stock is low.
Keeps radiology supervisors informed of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.
Coordinates patient care and set priorities by proving critical care first, and by implementing the physician's orders.
Performs examinations in an accurate and timely manner by responding to changes in the work schedule; effectively handling interruptions; functioning as a productive technologist; and completing assignments prior to end of shift.
Complete procurement, preparation, quality control, calculation, identification, documentation, dosing, administration, disposal, storage, infection control and safe handling of all Radiology equipment and supplies.
Adjusts routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting department flow.
Concentrate on fine detail, with interruption, and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes.
Identifies each patient and reviews each patient's requisition, either hard copy or in the computer system for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information utilizing three (3) forms of patient.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates the skills needed to safely operate all Interventional Radiology equipment.
Understanding of radiation physics and radiation protection.
Ability to safely transfer and position patients for all IR procedures.
Possess the skills needed to complete all IR procedures in a timely fashion.
Minimum Acceptable Experience and Training:
Completion of Certified Radiology program
Associates degree preferred.
Two years working in a Radiologic Technologist capacity
